Oct 2015 Eating Disorders Annie Rose Deakin Commencement of inpatient refeeding at higher initial rates (2100-2400kCal/day) compared with lower initial rates (1200kCal/day) resulted in:
  • faster initial weight gains at D7 (1.12kg vs. 0.81kg)
  • shorter length of stay - LOS (13.3 days vs. 21.1 days)
  • no difference in overall weight gain (+5% IBW vs. + 5.42% IBW), no increase in NGT use (16.7 vs. 30.8%) or hypophosphataemia (0% vs. 15.4%)
Higher final feeding rates (2800-3000kCal/day) compared with lower final feeding rates (2400kCal/day) resulted in:
  • better overall weight gain (6.44% vs. 4.56% IBW) without much greater LOS (18.9 vs. 16.2 days)
